New Delhi, April 1 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted people on the occasion of Odisha Day and said the state is proud as an “eternal symbol” of culture and spiritual greatness.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi extended hearty greetings and good wishes to the people of the state on this auspicious occasion through a post on social media platform ‘X’.
He said, “As the first state to be formed on the basis of language, Odisha made its unique identity on the world stage. On this occasion, I pay my deepest tribute to those great sons whose sacrifice and foresight made possible a different Odisha.”
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment towards “protecting” Odia identity and culture.
Manjhi said, “We will continue to work tirelessly to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of every Odia. Our sole aim is to make Odisha the leading state of the country. Today on this auspicious day, let us all come together and take a firm resolve to build a prosperous Odisha.”
Odisha Day or Utkal Day is celebrated annually on 1 April to commemorate the formation of Odisha as a separate province on 1 April 1936 on the basis of linguistic identity. This day is a day to honor the rich culture, heritage of Odisha and the leaders who struggled for a separate state.
