Rewari, June 30 (IANS). Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said on Tuesday that many states in the country can learn from Haryana’s agricultural initiatives. He advocated promoting sustainable and profitable farming.

He had come to Rewari to attend the closing ceremony of ‘Khet Bachao Abhiyan’ along with Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini.

At the event, both of them inaugurated an agro-industrial exhibition showcasing innovations in farming and launched ‘Haryana FPO Mission- 2026’.

In this program, the resolve to protect the health of the soil, make balanced and scientific use of fertilizers, save natural resources, advance modern farming techniques and intensify efforts to increase the income of farmers with people’s participation was reiterated.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Chauhan said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is rapidly moving towards becoming a developed country. He stressed that a developed India cannot be created without improved farming and prosperous farmers.

He said that farmers are the backbone of the country’s economy and their prosperity is the foundation of India’s overall progress.

He said that the Central Government is continuously working to make farming more profitable, modern and sustainable. He expressed confidence that with scientific farming, modern technologies and active participation of farmers, India will emerge as an even stronger global agricultural power.

He said that Haryana has presented an inspiring model of agricultural development for the entire country. He said that Haryana is among the leading states in giving minimum support price (MSP) on 24 crops. Schemes like ‘Bhavantar Bhapar Yojana’, ‘Meri Fasal-Mera Byora’ and ‘Mera Pani-Meri Virasat’ have significantly increased the income of farmers and saved natural resources.

The Union Minister said that Haryana is not only a state that contributes significantly to the grain reserves of the country, but is also a strong center of transformation in agriculture.

He said, “There was a time when India had to import grains from abroad, but today, thanks to the hard work of farmers of states like Haryana, the country has become self-sufficient in grain production.”

He said that farmers of Haryana play an important role in ensuring food security for the country’s 1.4 billion citizens. The youth of the state are equally ahead in protecting the country’s borders and bringing glory in sports. He said that Haryana is an inspiration for the country in terms of excellence in agriculture, military tradition and sports.

The Union Agriculture Minister urged the farmers to use fertilizer only in balanced quantities as per requirement. He said that excessive use of chemical fertilizers like urea and DAP is adversely affecting the fertility of the soil, disturbing the balance of nutrients and harming the environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said that despite having only 1.3 percent of the total geographical area of India, Haryana has created a distinct identity for itself in the field of agriculture.

He said that Haryana is the second largest state contributing to the Central Grain Reserve, which shows the hard work, dedication and dedication of the farmers here.

The Chief Minister described Haryana as a strong base for the food security of the country. He said that the state government is continuously working to increase the income of farmers, maintain the fertility of soil and promote sustainable farming, so that in future also, Haryana continues to play an important role as the ‘Food Bowl’ (major source of grains) of the country.
