Soon after returning from his two-day visit to Bhutan on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in the national capital to meet those injured in the recent Delhi blast.

After reaching Delhi, Prime Minister Modi went straight to LNJP Hospital, where he interacted with the injured and inquired about their health. He also wished for his speedy recovery. During this, senior officials and doctors briefed the Prime Minister about the condition of the victims and the treatment being given to them.

At least eight people were killed in an explosion in a Hyundai i20 car near Red Fort metro station on Monday evening.

According to sources, preliminary post-mortem of the Delhi blast victims has revealed serious injuries, including broken bones and head injuries.

The blast waves damaged the lungs, ears and abdominal organs, causing rupture of the eardrums, lungs and intestines. The explosion was very powerful. Causes of death included deep wounds and excessive bleeding, and injuries indicated that the victims were thrown against walls or on the ground.

During postmortem examination, no shrapnel marks were found on the bodies or clothes. The type of explosive used will be determined by forensic examination. Most of the injuries were on the upper body, head and chest.

Earlier today, the Forensic Sciences Laboratory (FSL) collected DNA samples of the mother of suspect Dr Omar Un Nabi, who was allegedly driving the I-20 car that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, killing eight people and injuring several others, sources said on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formed a “dedicated and comprehensive” investigation team to probe the recent car blast incident in Delhi. This is a terrorist attack that was carried out by the Jaish-e-Mohammed module exposed by Indian agencies.

This team will work under the supervision of senior officers of the level of Superintendent of Police and above, thereby ensuring a coordinated and thorough investigation of the case.

The move comes a day after the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) formally handed over the investigation to the NIA, citing a terror angle behind the blast.

Prime Minister Modi will also chair the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to discuss the Delhi blasts.
