New Delhi, May 21 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair an important meeting of the Council of Ministers at Seva Tirtha in Delhi on Thursday. This meeting is the first meeting of the Council of Ministers this year. This is happening at a time when speculations are intense about a possible cabinet reshuffle.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers will start at 5 pm. This will include all cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge and other ministers of state. It is being told that amidst the intense political and economic discussions going on within the government, all the Union Ministers have been asked to stay in the national capital during this period.
In this meeting, key members of the Union Cabinet will review the performance of governance and implementation of major policy decisions. The discussions are also likely to focus on the functioning of various ministries, decisions taken so far and results achieved.
Officials indicated that major schemes and programs of the government will also be reviewed in detail, with emphasis on ensuring their effective implementation and maximum impact on the public.
This meeting will take place at a time when the impact of the global crisis is being seen in India also. The government is closely monitoring the current situation and concerns related to oil prices, fuel supply and rising costs.
This high-level meeting is also taking place in the backdrop of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s recent election performance in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi returned to Delhi after successfully completing a diplomatic visit to 5 countries. The trip included the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy.
The Prime Minister began his visit from the UAE on May 15 and concluded it with his last stop in Italy on May 20. The main objective of this visit was to ensure energy supply, forge technological alliances and expand India’s economic presence in Europe.
