New Delhi, February 16 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday met Indian Grand Mufti Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliyar on matters related to social and minority welfare and held detailed discussions on a range of topics.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the ongoing educational and social welfare efforts in India led by the Grand Mufti.
He said that the social and cultural activities of the Grand Mufti enhance India’s prestige at the global level, and this is praiseworthy.
Their meeting in New Delhi discussed a wide range of topics including social, humanitarian, educational and development issues, minority welfare and important international events.
The Grand Mufti briefed the Prime Minister about the issues raised by people from different sections of society in the program ‘With Humanity’ during his recent visit to Kerala. He also handed over his special message to the Prime Minister for the holy month of Ramzan.
Issues like inclusive growth, focus on human development and happiness index and not just economic growth and fair distribution of resources were raised in the meeting.
Waqf matters and conservation of SIR, historical mosques and Islamic heritage monuments were also discussed. Development of minority educational welfare schemes, such as the Maulana Azad National Fellowship and the Aligarh University Malappuram Centre, were also discussed.
The Grand Mufti stressed the need for closer cooperation between the central government and minority communities across the country.
