Nagercoil, April 15 (IANS). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a road show in Kanyakumari on Wednesday. The Prime Minister will reach Thiruvananthapuram by special plane and then leave for Nagercoil by helicopter.

According to the information, he is scheduled to land at the Armed Forces Ground from where he will proceed by road to Vepamoodu Junction and start the road show at around 4:30 pm. A one kilometer stretch from Veppamoodu Junction to the MGR statue at Vadassery has been earmarked for the event.

Prime Minister Modi will travel in an open car, greeting the public and drumming up support for the BJP and NDA alliance candidates contesting elections in Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts.

Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran, former state president K. Annamalai, former Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is expected to attend the event along with other senior leaders of the alliance.

BJP has completed extensive preparations for this yatra. To facilitate crowd management and to ensure that the public can safely see the Prime Minister during the procession, barricades have been installed on both sides of the route.

According to party sources, thousands of BJP workers and supporters from all six assembly seats in Kanyakumari district are expected to attend the event. Besides, a large number of workers are also likely to come from the neighboring districts of Thoothukudi and Tenkasi, indicating the importance of the event in the NDA’s election campaign strategy.

After the roadshow, PM Modi will return to the Armed Forces Ground, from where he will fly back to Thiruvananthapuram and then leave for New Delhi.

The visit assumes significance at a time when political parties are intensifying their campaign efforts in the last days before voting and star campaigners are playing a vital role in reaching out to voters across Tamil Nadu.

Voting for the 234-member assembly is scheduled for April 23 and counting will take place on May 4. To ensure a free, fair and transparent electoral process, the Election Commission of India has deployed 176 general and police observers as well as more than 150 expenditure observers. These officers will keep a close watch on election campaign activities and expenditure patterns to prevent any violations and maintain the integrity of the democratic process.
