Manipur Congress President Kesham Meghchandra on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to this state affected by ethnic violence is “only symbolic” and its purpose is “” to bring peace and justice “.
Modi will reach Manipur on Saturday, where ethnic violence erupted two years ago. He will unveil projects worth Rs 8,500 crore.
Meghchandra claimed in a video message, “I consider Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit just a symbolic and pretense. People suffering from months, including the internally displaced people living in relief camps, expected a concrete framework for peace, rehabilitation and justice. ”
The state Congress chief also alleged that Modi’s visit was hollow.
The Wangkhem MLA said, “It would have been better, if he had told that this journey was related to peace and justice.” I am very disappointed at not having talks with all stakeholders. ”
The Congress leader also claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not resolved the current situation properly.
He said, “We have also heard that desperate people in Churachandpur destroyed banners and cardboard cut-outs in connection with the Prime Minister’s visit.”
Meghchandra said, “No attempt has been made to bring peace or ensure free movement. The purpose of this visit is not to bring peace and ensure justice. ”
The Prime Minister’s visit is taking place at a time when the opposition parties have repeatedly criticized him for not visiting the state after the ethnic conflict between Cookie and Meeti communities. More than 260 people have been killed in this struggle since May 2023 and thousands of people have become homeless.
