Itanagar, December 6 (IANS). The name of Raj Bhavan in Arunachal Pradesh has been changed to ‘Lok Bhavan’. Officials gave this information on Saturday.
Raj Bhavans in seven more northeastern states, Assam, Tripura, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and Sikkim, have already been named ‘Lok Bhavan’.
Officials said the formalities of changing the name in Arunachal Pradesh were completed when Governor Lieutenant General KT Pernaik (retd) returned to Itanagar.
Arunachal Governor’s Commissioner Pawan Kumar Sain said in an order that as per the letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) dated November 25 and the instructions of the Governor, the official name of ‘Raj Bhawan’ has now been changed to ‘Lok Bhawan’.
Raj Bhawan of Arunachal Pradesh will henceforth be known as ‘Lok Bhawan’.
The order also said that the name ‘Lok Bhawan’ will be used in all government correspondence, records, boards, digital platforms, stationery and all documents related to the Governor.
The order states that all departments and offices of the state government and all concerned agencies are requested to take note of the above changes and make necessary changes in their official documents, websites and correspondence.
Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu had earlier said that the decision to change the name of Raj Bhavan to ‘Lok Bhavan’ was taken in respect of democracy.
The Governor had told the media, “The name Raj Bhavan seemed as if it belonged to a royal family or a king. Now that there is democracy and governments are elected through the democratic system, the name of Raj Bhavan has been changed to Lok Bhavan.”
Now the holdings of Raj Bhavan in Agartala, the capital of Tripura, will be named Lok Bhavan, an official said.
