Jaipur, July 14 (IANS). In view of the decline in crude oil production in recent years, the Rajasthan government has asked oil producing companies to use new technology to increase production.
Additional Chief Secretary (Mines and Petroleum) Aparna Arora said that more refining of the state’s crude oil in Rajasthan itself will significantly increase value addition and boost economic development.
The Rajasthan government has intensified efforts to formulate a comprehensive action plan to increase the production of crude oil and natural gas in the state. In this, special emphasis is being laid on adopting modern technologies and expanding exploration activities.
Chairing a high-level meeting with senior officials of entities engaged in exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Arora stressed the need to use globally successful technologies to increase production. He said that Rajasthan ranks second in onshore natural gas production and third in crude oil production in the country.
Now Rajasthan has the capacity to process about 1.5 million tonnes of crude oil produced within the state.
He said that crude oil production has declined in recent years and asked the producing companies to adopt latest technologies to reverse this trend. He emphasized that maximum refining of Rajasthan’s crude oil within the state will contribute significantly to economic development and value addition.
The Additional Chief Secretary said that oil and gas companies should adopt a dual strategy, accelerating exploration in new potential fields as well as increasing production from existing fields through modern recovery techniques. He stressed the need for a long-term action plan to achieve sustained growth in production.
He told the meeting that Rajasthan has four major crude oil and natural gas basins: Jaisalmer Basin, Barmer-Sanchaur Basin, Bikaner-Nagaur Basin and Vindhya Basin.
