The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the dates for the Rajya Sabha elections held every two years. In June 2026, 24 seats are going vacant in 10 states, while seats are already vacant in two other states. Voting to fill these seats will be held on June 18, 2026. The Election Commission today issued a notification announcing the election schedule.

Twenty-two MPs from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram and Jharkhand are retiring on June 1. By-elections are also to be held in Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. According to the Election Commission, the tenure of the sitting MPs of the above states is ending on different dates between June 21 and July 19.
**Number of vacant seats and election schedule**
There will be four vacant seats each in Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka. Three MPs each from Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will retire, while two MPs from Jharkhand will retire. Elections will be held for one seat each in Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. Of the retiring MPs, 11 are from BJP, while 4 are from Congress. The remaining 9 MPs represent other political parties.
According to the notification, the last date for filing nominations for the elections is June 8. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on June 9. Nominations can be withdrawn on June 11. Voting will take place on June 18 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Counting of votes will be done only on June 18 and the entire Rajya Sabha election process is to be completed by June 20.
