Before elections, political parties give various kinds of inducements to the public. The public is entangled in election promises. But, the situation changes as soon as the elections are over. Then the public representatives neither remember the public nor the promises made to them. Such selfish politics will neither benefit the country nor the people. Only those who have political foresight and the passion to work in the interest of the country and the people will get votes. This is what the voters of the city say, who believe that the governments till now have talked more and worked less on major issues like livelihood, education, health, security. On Saturday, in the Hindustan Samvad: ‘Let’s Do Politics: Now It’s Women’s Turn’ campaign, people from different walks of life expressed their views on public issues.

Voters said that political parties have failed to ensure that the public gets the place and respect it deserves and the rights it deserves in a democracy. During the dialogue, public anger was directed at the leaders as well as the political parties. He said that the people roam from pillar to post to fulfill their daily needs and the public representatives who are in power after getting elected by their votes enjoy the rule. They are not concerned about the welfare of the public. People were also angry about the fact that leaders and political parties spread hatred in the name of religion, caste, class and community. The country has not yet got freedom from poverty, unemployment and illiteracy, but political parties, leaving aside these issues, are busy taking potshots at each other. They are not concerned with the problems of the public. Only if the public does not hand over the reins of power to such opportunists, a better political environment will be created. He said that instead of showing people daydreams of development, if the governments implement the schemes honestly, then the country will be happy and so will the people.

no false promises
The people who came to the dialogue said that political parties should be honest towards their manifestos. He said that why such promises are made to the public which cannot be fulfilled. If jobs cannot be given to everyone, then why is such an announcement made? Taking aim at all the political parties, he said that they themselves should review how much of their manifestos have been fulfilled so far. Even today people are deprived of basic facilities. There is no control on inflation. People are struggling everywhere. Governments start their schemes with a bang, but soon they die midway. He said that in democracy the rights of the people are marginalized. All political parties capitalize on the issues of corruption, poverty, migration, women’s safety etc., but no honest efforts are made to control them. He said that a game of statistics is being played in the name of development, which will not benefit the public.

Private educational institutions are being looted, governments are silent, health facilities are also in bad shape.
People said that how our basic needs are fulfilled is the main matter of concern. He said that good education is necessary to restore a better system, which no government has paid attention to. If education improves, the problem of employment will also go away. Right now education is divided into government and private. The condition of government education is bad. If there are no teachers in schools and colleges, then how will quality education be provided? At the same time, studying in private educational institutions is not within the power of a common man. He said that the condition of the government education system is bad, hence private educational institutions are dominating. They charge expensive fees. He gave the example of the district school of Ranchi, where it was never easy to take enrollment, but despite such a glorious history, this school is neglected today. Same is the condition of medical facilities. In government hospitals, patients run wild for treatment and doctors, while private hospitals work to rob the common man. He stressed on improving government education and health facilities.

When will the middle class be taken care of?
In the dialogue, people’s anger erupted over the fact that the middle class is the most oppressed, but there is no plan for its betterment. The upper class is resourceful. There are government schemes for the lower class, which more or less reach them. But, what should the middle class do? They also pay taxes, but do not get the benefits of facilities. He said that political parties have deceived this class the most. There is neither government scheme nor facility for them. It is the middle class families who are most affected by inflation. But this class has been completely neglected in government policies. He said that no matter who forms the government, the common man should be respected and his rights should not be violated. In the name of development, the public should not be misled or shown as a vegetable garden. The game of misleading the public should not be played. The public should vote only for those who have a good image and visionary thinking. People should reject those who divide people in the name of caste and religion.

Political parties should talk on issues
The issue of leaders’ rhetoric and war of words with each other also came up in the dialogue. People said that at the time of elections, every political party is bent upon proving itself better. These parties do not talk on the issues, but are busy in exposing each other. He said that no political party is a wash of milk. No party can claim that the promises it made to the public at the time of elections have been fulfilled. He said that instead of humiliating each other, political parties should tell the public what they did. The women were angry over the fact that the governments had failed in the matter of women’s safety. There is no control on crimes like rape and human trafficking. Law and order is weak and criminals are rampant. He said that whoever forms the government, it should provide a safe environment to the people and ensure that their basic needs are fulfilled. The common people should be respected and the corrupt should be cracked down on. He appealed that the public should reject big-talking leaders and vote only for those who have a roadmap for development.
