Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists is an attempt to cover up ‘vote theft’ and institutionalize it.
Rahul Gandhi reached Pachmarhi in Narmadapuram on Saturday to attend the training camp of Madhya Pradesh District Congress Presidents.
Speaking to reporters here, the Congress MP claimed, “Vote theft is an issue and SIR is to cover it up and institutionalize it.”
The Election Commission had launched the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls on November 4 in nine states and three Union Territories.
Gandhi said he believed that like Haryana, ‘vote theft’ took place in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh too. “A few days ago, I gave a presentation on vote theft in Haryana and I clearly saw that votes were being stolen. 25 lakh votes were stolen, 1 out of every 8 votes was stolen,” he said.
He said, ‘After seeing this, after seeing the data, I believe that the same happened in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh also. This is the system of BJP and Election Commission.’
The former Congress President claimed that he has more evidence, which he will bring forward gradually. “But my issue is vote theft. SIR is now an attempt to cover it up and institutionalize the system,” he said.
Asked if he would make more such revelations in the future, Gandhi said, “We have a lot of different information, very detailed information and we will release it.”
He said, “Democracy is being attacked, Ambedkar’s Constitution is being attacked. Modi ji (Prime Minister), Amit Shah ji (Union Home Minister) and Gyanesh ji (Chief Election Commissioner) are doing this together. Because of this, the country is suffering a lot. Mother India is being harmed.”
