New Delhi, December 20 (IANS). On behalf of the President and Executive Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has objected and condemned the pulling of the hijab of a female doctor. After this, Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Uttar Pradesh Government Minister Sanjay Nishad have also been condemned.
In a letter issued by SCBA, the comments made by Union Minister Giriraj Singh and Uttar Pradesh Minister Sanjay Nishad objecting to CM Nitish Kumar pulling off the hijab have also been condemned. SCBA said such derogatory comments lower the dignity of women.
The SCBA says it views this act as a serious infringement on a woman’s personal dignity. It is shocking that a person holding such a high position should try to reduce the dignity and autonomy of women. Apart from violating the young doctor’s autonomy, agency and religious freedom, it is a reflection of distorted attitudes towards women in general.
The Supreme Court Bar Association said this is an insult to the principles of equality and non-discrimination enshrined in the Constitution of India. The Supreme Court Bar Association demands an unconditional apology from him. We reaffirm our commitment to the protection of individual rights and the rule of law.
On December 15, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was giving appointment letters to doctors, during which a woman wearing hijab went near the CM to get the letter. First the CM asked the woman to remove her hijab and the next moment she pulled it off with her hands. When its video went viral on social media, some people came to the defense of Nitish Kumar and some raised objections. There is a lot of politics going on on this.
