Kolkata, 23 September (IANS). The state opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari has surrounded Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her government over the situation of heavy rains and water logging in West Bengal. He alleged that this is not a natural disaster but the result of the government’s completely failed preparation and negligence.
Suvendu Adhikari wrote in her official ‘X’ post, “Once again the people of West Bengal are suffering from Mamta Banerjee’s failed government. The shame is that Mamata Banerjee is calling it ‘sudden rain’, which directly reflects her failure.”
He said that IMD had already issued an orange alert for the Ganges belt West Bengal region, warning of very heavy rain. Despite this, the government did not make any preparations. He said, “IMD warning was public, but Mamata Banerjee, Firhad Hakim and Power Minister Arup could not do anything.
He called it wrong to avoid it as ‘God’s will’ and said that it is completely ‘leadership failure’.
Suvendu Adhikari also questioned Mamata Banerjee’s statement in which he had told the water from Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. On this, he taunted, “It is a very weak and absurd excuse to say that water came from outside states or Farakka and DVC.
Suvendu alleged that the Mamta government was blaming the CESC (Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation) to hide its failure, while the real responsibility was the state government. He said that neither any warning was already given, nor any relief was arranged.
Suvendu Adhikari asked Mamata Banerjee two important questions at the end of her official ‘X’ post. He asked when IMD had already warned, why was it ignored? Why was disaster management not prepared despite clear weather forecasts?
He said, “The people of West Bengal deserve better government than this.”
