Chennai, July 6 (IANS). Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar Nagendran on Monday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. He alleged that the law and order situation in the state has deteriorated under the TVK-led government and the chief minister has failed to ensure public safety.
Nagendran claimed that the government has failed to respond effectively to several recent criminal incidents and alleged that the Chief Minister was merely giving explanations instead of taking decisive action against the criminals.
Referring to the alleged kidnapping of a Congress functionary in Coimbatore district and the alleged attempt to murder a young woman in Virudhunagar district, the BJP leader termed these incidents as proof of deteriorating law and order in the state.
He said the TVK-led government remained a mute spectator to these incidents and questioned its ability to protect citizens despite repeated assurances of public safety.
Nagendran also highlighted the political significance of the Coimbatore incident and pointed out that the victim belonged to the Congress, an ally in the ruling coalition.
He alleged that the government’s inability to protect office-bearers of the ruling coalition parties reflected the administrative failure of the Chief Minister.
Nagendran said the Chief Minister’s inability to provide security even to officials of his coalition partners in public places exposed the failure of his administration. He further claimed that the people of Tamil Nadu had voted for political change in the hope of better governance and better security, but they are now living in fear due to increasing violent incidents from different parts of the state.
Seeking immediate intervention, the state BJP president urged the Chief Minister to give top priority to restoring law and order and ensuring public safety. He said the government should take strong action against those responsible for criminal activities, regardless of their background or influence, and ensure that the culprits are brought to justice without delay.
Nagendran said the government should stop making excuses and focus on crime prevention through effective policing and prompt legal action. He stressed that maintaining law and order is the primary responsibility of any government and the people of Tamil Nadu expect the administration to guarantee their security.
