The results of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, which were announced on Monday, May 4, surprised everyone. Now reports show that suspense regarding government formation still continues. In the election results, actor Vijay’s party – ‘Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam’ (TVK), which was founded just three years ago – emerged as the party winning the most seats. In the electoral contest itself, TVK had won 108 seats. However, till now no party has got absolute majority in this election.
**Suspense continues regarding government formation in Tamil Nadu**
Meanwhile, sources say that uncertainty still remains regarding government formation. The Governor does not seem to be completely satisfied with TVK leader Vijay’s claim of forming the government. As a result, the Governor has sought legal advice on TVK leader Vijay’s attempt to seize power.
Vijay had submitted a letter to the Governor, in which he had said that he had the support of 112 members of the Assembly (MLAs). However, due to lack of clear majority, the Governor directed him to return only after gathering the support of 118 MLAs.
Moreover, despite getting the support of the Congress party, TVK is still a few seats short of the majority figure. Meanwhile, the stand of other parties including VCK is still unclear. In such a situation, Vijay may have to wait for letters of support from other political parties. Due to this, the swearing-in ceremony to be held on Thursday may be postponed.
Actually, earlier reports had said that Joseph Vijay can take oath as Chief Minister on May 7. M.K. Stalin has resigned from the post of Chief Minister. Chief Minister Stalin himself faced defeat at the hands of TVK candidate in his traditional electoral stronghold ‘Kolathur’. His party, DMK, won 59 seats in this election, while AIADMK won 47 seats. Apart from this, Congress party won 5 seats and PMK won 4 seats.
In another development, the TVK leader appealed for cooperation from the central government. After TVK’s victory in Tamil Nadu, Prime Minister Modi was among the first to congratulate actor Vijay on his success; He posted a message on social media platform ‘X’. In response, party leader Vijay expressed gratitude by reposting the Prime Minister’s message and wrote: “Thank you, Honorable Prime Minister. Thank you for your message of good wishes. The welfare of our people is our only goal. Rising above politics, we will focus on the progress of the state and the well-being of the people of Tamil Nadu. In this endeavour, we look forward to the cooperation of the Central Government.”
