Patna, April 18 (IANS). RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav took a dig at BJP over the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill related to women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha. He said that the real agenda is to change the Constitution.
While talking to the media in Patna, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that BJP is trying to weaken democracy in the guise of women.
Tejashwi Yadav said that there is no party or MP against the Women’s Reservation Bill. There is a need to understand this clearly.
He said that the Women’s Reservation Bill has already been passed in 2023. Our demand was that OBC women should also be given reservation in this. If there are caste-based provisions for men then why not for women, but the government did not accept our demand.
Tejashwi said that this bill was brought in haste during the assembly elections of five states. Earlier it was based on the 2011 census, but our demand is that it should be based on the latest census of 2025, so that proper representation of backward classes, extremely backward classes and Dalits can be ensured.
The RJD leader alleged that the BJP knew that they did not have a two-thirds majority, yet they introduced the bill to show themselves as women-friendly. He called it a political gimmick and propaganda.
Tejashwi Yadav claimed that BJP is taking cover of women to fulfill its plans of changing the Constitution and wants to weaken democracy, but we will foil all their efforts.
On the statement of Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav said that he needs to work. They should not talk much. Bihar has remained a laggard for 20 years, when will it come in the top 5? The treasury is empty, how will it be filled? What roadmap does he have for the development of Bihar? What is the plan on employment, business and electricity rates? Electricity rates have been increased, but the issues are not discussed.
Reiterating his point, Tejashwi said that we had said earlier also that Bihar will be run from Gujarat.
