Telangana: BJP leader detained for misbehaving with school principal

तेलंगाना: स्कूल प्रिंसिपल से बदसलूकी करने पर भाजपा नेता को हिरासत में लिया गया

Hyderabad, June 29 (IANS). Telangana Police on Monday detained a BJP leader in Armoor town of Nizamabad district. He is accused of assaulting the school principal over teaching Urdu.

BJP’s Armoor Town Unit President Mandula Balu was detained from a guest house in Ankabur. It is said that this guest house belongs to BJP MLA from Armoor assembly constituency Paddy Rakesh Reddy.

A team of policemen forcibly took out Mandula Balu from the guest house and took them with them. During this, Balu and his supporters tried to oppose the police. The BJP leader described the police action as cruel.

Mandula Balu had slapped Bharat Chandra School principal Aamer Khan on June 27. This action of the BJP leader in the presence of a police officer and the inaction of the police had spread a lot of anger.

The video of this attack was widely shared on social media. Congress national spokesperson Shama Mohammed had demanded action against the BJP leader and the police officer.

BJP leaders and their supporters were angry over Urdu being taught in private schools. During an argument in school, Balu slaps the principal and misbehaves with him. BJP leaders alleged that Urdu teachers were also teaching namaz and other religious rituals to Hindu students.

The Hindu managed school administration denied these allegations. He said that Urdu was introduced as the second language following the decision of the school management on the request of the parents of some students.

School correspondent Mallaiya told that the Urdu teacher had taken some classes and taught the Urdu alphabet.

According to Amer Khan, the management was planning to create a separate block for the Urdu department. However, the newly appointed Urdu teacher was not aware of this and they took the class together.

Urdu classes were stopped following objections from parents of non-Muslim students, but a local BJP leader entered the school with his supporters and assaulted the principal. Amer Khan alleges that after this incident he was kept in the police station till evening.

Based on the complaint by school correspondent Mallaiya, the police registered an FIR against BJP leader Balu and others on charges of criminal trespass, causing hurt and loss.

Armoor tehsildar Satyanarayan filed a counter-complaint against the school principal and the correspondent. Meanwhile, Congress MP Renuka Chaudhary has reacted to the incident.

“Urdu is a very rich language. Our previous generations knew how to read Urdu. It is a language. It is a culture that has influenced many aspects of Telangana’s history. BJP and its forefathers have no right to stop it,” the former Union minister posted.

The Rajya Sabha member also shared a poem on the beauty and sweetness of the Urdu language, describing Urdu as one of the glorious heritages of India and the language of all irrespective of religion.
