Telangana CM seeks Centre's support for development of Scheduled Castes

Hyderabad, July 13 (IANS). Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday said the Central government should take the initiative to provide necessary support and cooperation for the development of Scheduled Castes.

The Chief Minister made this demand during his meeting with National Scheduled Caste Commission Chairman Kishore Makwana.

Revanth Reddy said that the state government is taking several steps to end caste discrimination among students.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister informed the Chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission about the opportunities available for socio-economic and political empowerment of the Scheduled Caste community. The implementation of Scheduled Caste classification was also discussed in the meeting.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy told the Chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission that the state government is providing more opportunities to the Scheduled Caste community than is proportionate to their population.

In a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s Office, the Chief Minister was quoted as saying that we have provided opportunities to the Scheduled Castes to hold important positions in politics and other fields.

The Chief Minister told Makwana that to improve the education system, ‘Young India Integrated Residential Schools’ are being built on 25 acres of land in each assembly constituency. These schools will become operational from the next academic year.

Important issues like education from nursery to class 12, establishment of ‘Telangana Public Schools’ providing breakfast, lunch and transport facilities to students and increasing the number of Telangana Public Schools in Urban Areas (CUREs) were discussed during the meeting.

Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, DGP CV Anand, members of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and senior officials of the state government were present.

The officials briefed the Chairman of the National Scheduled Caste Commission about the steps being taken by the State Government for the development of the Scheduled Caste community.
