BJP’s newly elected national president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday said he is not just assuming a post, but adopting the ideology, traditions and responsibility of the party’s nationalist movement.
Expressing gratitude towards senior leaders and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he underlined the collective efforts of 140 crore Indians working towards a developed India.
Addressing leaders and workers at the party headquarters in the capital, Nabeen said, “Today’s moment is a moment of resolution for me. Today I am not just assuming office. I am accepting the ideology, traditions and responsibility of the nationalist movement of this party, and on this occasion I also bow to all my senior colleagues. Today 140 crore Indians are connecting with the dream of a developed India and are working to take the country forward. For this I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Prime Minister.”
Nabeen said that it was only with the support of party workers and Prime Minister Narendra Modi that an ordinary worker like him could reach the top post.
Recalling his first meeting with the Prime Minister during an event in Anand, Gujarat, Nabeen said he learned that true greatness comes from connecting with people’s emotions.
Nabeen said, “Today, first of all, I express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you. You have given an opportunity to an ordinary worker like me to reach this highest post of the party, and for this I bow down to all of you. Prime Minister, I also express my heartfelt gratitude to you because ordinary workers like us have always seen from a distance that you are continuously working in the service of the nation.”
He said, “I remember the first time I attended an event with you in Anand, Gujarat. I was the national general secretary at that time, and I saw you listening attentively to every single person during the Sadbhavna Mission event. After the event was over, when you spoke to us in your green room, you explained with great emotion why so many people had come from Gujarat… That day, I understood that a person becomes great only when he connects with the emotions of the people.”
Nabin also expressed confidence in the party’s prospects in the upcoming assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry.
He said that the hard work and dedication of BJP workers will ensure success in all the five states.
He said, “Elections are going to be held in Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry in the coming few months and the population structure of these states is being widely discussed. The changing population structure is changing the situation there and it is a challenge for us. However, we are confident that BJP workers will bring success to BJP in these five states with their struggle and hard work.”
He criticized the opposition parties, accusing them of allegedly trying to interfere in cultural and religious traditions, and cited the recent Karthikai Deepam festival in Tamil Nadu and the attempt to impeach a judge.
He said it is important to confront forces opposing such traditions and asserted that those who deny the existence of Ram Setu or oppose festivals like Karthikai Deepam should have no place in Indian politics.
Nabeen further said, “Recently we saw how the opposition parties tried to stop the sacred Karthikai Deepam festival on a hill in Tamil Nadu. This is not an isolated incident; the opposition has also hatched conspiracies to stop other things. We recently saw how an attempt was made to impeach a judge.”
He said, “Today when we talk about Somnath and try to celebrate this glorious festival, people from opposition parties feel uncomfortable. We believe that it is necessary to confront the forces that try to stop such traditions. We have to ensure that those who deny the existence of Ram Setu and oppose the Karthikai Deepam festival have no place in Indian politics.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Nabin after his address. Today Nabeen formally took charge as the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, outgoing BJP national president JP Nadda, several other BJP leaders and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states were present at the event.
