Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of the country for the first time in 2014 after spending a long political life as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. After this, since 2024, he has been handling the reins of power for the third time. Narendra Modi’s Guru Laxmanrao Inamdar has a huge contribution in the journey from an RSS general worker to become Prime Minister. Narendra Modi lived in room number-3 on the lower floor of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh office, Hedgewar Bhavan in Ahmedabad as a Sangh pracharak. At the same time, in front of his room, Lakshmanrao used to live in room number-1. Narendra Modi was always bowing in front of him.
Inamdar was born in 1917 in Khatav village, 130 km south of Pune. He was one of the ten children of a government revenue officer. Inamdar joined the Sangh after taking a law degree from Pune University in 1943. He also participated in the freedom struggle and continued to follow unmarried and plain life for a lifetime as RSS pracharak in Gujarat. Inamdar first met Modi in the early 1960s. Since 1943, the Inamdar Sangh appointed in Gujarat was the province pracharak, who roamed the city and encouraged the youth to come to the branches. When he addressed meetings in Vadnagar in Gujarati, Modi was convinced of his future guru’s eloquence.

Later, Narendra Modi did his BA from political science. Modi’s efforts to keep the Sangh alive even during the Emergency helped him climb the stairs of the Sangh. First he was sent to Vadodara by making him a department campaigner of Vadodara district and by 1979 he became divisional campaigners of Nadiad, Dang and Panchmahal districts. In the early 1980s, the Sangh’s senior officer Inamdar came to know about the cancer. He died in 1984, but he continued to work as a Sangh till the end of life.
