New Delhi, (IANS). During the monsoon session of Parliament, various opposition parties including Congress, Samajwadi Party (SP) raised the issue of alleged irregularities in NEET-UG examination, alleged lathi charge on students and alleged misuse of offerings at Ram temple. Opposition leaders demanded answers and accountability from the government on these matters.

Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, while talking to reporters in the Parliament complex, alleged that the government was adopting an insensitive attitude towards the students. He said that if the government is not able to conduct the examinations in a fair and systematic manner, then its responsibility should be handed over to a competent institution. He termed the alleged lathicharge on students as an attack on democracy and said that the government should respond to this.

Kharge also referred to allegations of alleged irregularities related to offerings in the Ram temple, saying transparency in this matter is necessary and Prime Minister Narendra Modi should take responsibility for it.

Congress MP Gurjit Singh Aujla said that the entire opposition is demanding discussion on the issue of paper leak in the House and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

He alleged that the government has caused serious damage to the education system and is playing with the future of the country’s youth. He also demanded clarification from the government on the alleged allegations related to offerings in Ram temple.

Congress MP Manish Tewari said accountability should be fixed for the alleged failures of the country’s education system. He said that the allegations of alleged misuse of offerings in the Ram temple should also be discussed in Parliament, so that the parties concerned can present their views. According to him, if the government allows discussion then the House can function smoothly.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that his party has been raising the issue of NEET exam for the last several months under the ‘Students’ Echo’ campaign. He said that the only demand of the opposition is that these issues should be discussed in Parliament.

Tharoor alleged that the government was avoiding discussion, whereas the purpose of Parliament in a democracy is to have open debate on important national issues. He said that the government has majority, so it should not be afraid of discussion.

Expressing concern over the alleged lathicharge during the students’ protest at Jantar Mantar, Tharoor said that if the protest was peaceful then the need to use force was beyond comprehension and it was a very sad incident.

SP MP Zia ur Rehman Burke also condemned the alleged lathicharge on students and said that students are the future of the country and such behavior with them is not acceptable.

He told that a party delegation led by SP MP Dimple Yadav will go to meet the students. He said that Samajwadi Party supports the students’ movement and the government should communicate with them and address their concerns.
