New Delhi, July 23 (IANS). Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)’s demonstration continues at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar to protest against the NEET paper leak and demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Meanwhile, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union Minister Murli Manohar Joshi has justified the demands of the protesters and appealed to the government not to take action against them.
The BJP leader also shared a post on social media platform Facebook on Thursday. Joshi wrote in his post that it is extremely painful to see that young students from different parts of the country have been gathering on the streets of New Delhi for several days. Their concerns and concerns are genuine. These should be resolved with compassion and long-term solutions. I sincerely hope that this will not be seen merely as a law and order problem to be dealt with forcefully.
He said that I am deeply pained to see that brutal force was used on women and girls. Use of such force will drive a large section of Indian society far away from the goal of a developed India.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police on Thursday rejected reports that it has been given powers under the National Security Act (NSA) to detain protesters taking part in the paper leak protests in the national capital. Police clarified that this order is a general administrative renewal, which has been in force for years.
It is noteworthy that the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi had issued an order on July 15 under Section 3(3) of the National Security Act (NSA), 1980. The order empowered the Delhi Police Commissioner to exercise powers under the NSA from July 19, 2026, to October 18, 2026.
This means that during this period, the Delhi Police Commissioner can issue orders of preventive detention under Section 3(2) of the NSA against persons whose detention is considered necessary in the interest of national security or public order.
Delhi Police has clarified that this is not a new order. Officials said it has been in force for a long time and is renewed every three months as per standard administrative procedure.
