New Delhi, February 24 (IANS). On the arrest of Indian Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu Chib by Delhi Police, former Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Harish Rawat said that this is an attack on freedom of expression.
Speaking to IANS in Dehradun, former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat said that the way the Youth Congress Chief has been arrested and is being sent on remand is in itself a matter of great concern. This is an attack on freedom of speech. There have been some developments regarding the AI Summit. Before that, our interests have been harmed by the India-America trade deal. We believe that India’s interests are being harmed and are speaking out against it. The youth organization expressed its views in its own way, but now treating them like criminals is crushing the freedom of expression. The government does not decide whether a political step is right or not, it is the people who decide. If there is any violation of the law then tell us which violation has happened and what steps should be taken under the law, but they are treating us like traitors. We do not accept it, we condemn it.
Congress MP Randeep Singh Surjewala said, “Everyone has their own way of protesting. Even before independence, martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru had taken necessary steps to highlight the problems of the people and the fight for freedom. In a democracy, peaceful dissent can never be considered undemocratic or treasonous. We, along with our Youth Congress National President Uday Bhanu and all comrades, stand firm as a rock. Standing This will always be remembered in history as a dark chapter.
He said that if a government betrays the interests of the country in a trade agreement, then it is not a crime to expose it at every forum. Every Congress member and citizen should do this again and again. If opposing the government through democratic and peaceful means, as our Youth Congress colleagues have done, is considered a crime, then we will and will continue to believe it. What crime have our Youth Congress members or Uday Bhanu committed? Raising an issue through protest is not a crime. In a democracy, opposing a government that compromises the interests of the country cannot be considered undemocratic. This is exactly what our Youth Congress members have done.
