Ambikapur, April 16 (IANS). Congress leader TS Singh Deo has targeted the government over the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). He said that there has not been much consultation in this process, which is wrong.
Speaking to news agency IANS, he said, “The current discussion on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh shows that there has been no consultation in the process. First it is brought to the cabinet with a statement that it will be implemented and then it is said that a committee is being formed to seek public opinion.”
He said that as far as I understand, matters are usually brought to the Cabinet only when they are completely finalized and ready to be presented in the Assembly. Before approval by the Cabinet, there is proper scrutiny, close scrutiny and consultation. Here the process seems to be reversed.
Congress leader T.S. Regarding the appointment of former Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai as the head of the UCC panel by the Chhattisgarh government, Singh Deo said, “This is being done to divert people’s attention from the main issues. The law and order situation is deteriorating. Opium cultivation is going on unabated. Industrial accidents are happening one after the other. Education Department schools are being closed. Electricity prices are being increased.”
He said that amidst all this, if you want to divert people’s attention, what will you do? The issue of Naxalism has also been resolved. They suddenly want to divert people’s attention by saying that UCC has arrived. It is foolish to do this without thinking about the structure of the society and without taking the opinion of the people concerned, because UCC is not a creation of BJP, but it is in the Constitution. If you feel the need to bring changes to improve any system of the society, then discuss it with the people of the society. First pass it in your party’s cabinet and then don’t say that you will talk to the people.
On Samrat Chaudhary taking oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar, Congress leader T.S. Singh Deo said, “This shows their mentality. I just told you that this is what they want to do in the country. Their mentality is that they want to capture power and do only what they think is right. You cannot say anything about this. If you have a different opinion, there is no place for your opinion there. They want to control Bihar. They had fought the elections together.”
