Acting on the directions of the Allahabad High Court, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday ordered a complete ban on police records and caste-based references at public places to end caste discrimination in the state.

Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar has issued instructions to all departments saying that now caste will not be mentioned in the first Information Report (FIR), arrest memorandum or other police documents. Instead, parents’ names will be used for identity.

The order further directed that caste symbols, slogans and references displayed on the police station noticeboard, vehicles or signboards should be removed immediately.

Additionally, caste-based rallies have been banned across the state, and law enforcement agencies have been tasked to ensure strict monitoring of social media platforms to prevent violations.

However, the government has clarified that exemption in cases filed under the Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act will apply, where it is a necessary legal need to identify caste.

The standard operation process (SOP) and police manual will be amended to effectively implement the directions of the High Court.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited the public in Gorakhpur today. The Chief Minister heard the problems of the people in the Janata Durbar. CM Yogi also wished Navratri.

CM wrote on X, “Mother Bhagwati Jagadamba’s worship and worship of worship, heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all the devotees and state people of ‘Sharadiya Navratri’! Mother should bless happiness, health and prosperity in everyone’s life, this is the prayer.

Earlier, on 21 September, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the state government has included 300 intellectuals including retired Chief Secretaries, Secretaries, Deputy Secretaries and Vice-Chancellors to help prepare roadmaps for “developed India-developed Uttar Pradesh 2047”.

Addressing a workshop on this subject, the Chief Minister said that these experts are visiting educational institutions across the state and are consulting people about the development goals of the state for 2047.
