Jaipur, February 17 (IANS). There was uproar in the budget session of Rajasthan Assembly on Tuesday when the discussion on the issue related to cow progeny turned into a scuffle and a face-to-face situation. The controversy started with the incident of a severed head of a calf being found near Hingonia Gaushala in Jaipur.
Opposition leader Tikaram Julie accused the government of failing to maintain law and order and claimed that the accused in the case was getting the protection of a ruling party MLA. After his statement, the MLAs of the ruling party and the opposition came face to face and the atmosphere of the House became very tense.
The uproar started when BJP MLA from Hawamahal Balmukundacharya asked the government whether it was considering declaring cow as the state animal in Rajasthan. On this, Animal Husbandry Minister Jora Ram Kumawat clarified that at present no such proposal is under consideration.
There was a stir in the House after this reply, but the opposition’s allegations regarding the Jaipur incident heated up the atmosphere. Tikaram Julie indirectly pointed towards BJP’s Civil Lines MLA Gopal Sharma and accused him of trying to save the accused.
Responding to this, Gopal Sharma said that if the involvement of any of his supporters is proved, he will immediately resign from the Assembly.
After this, loud sloganeering started between the MLAs of both the parties. It was told that Gopal Sharma moved towards the opposition bench, after which Congress leaders Govind Singh Dotasara and Ashok Chandna also came forward, due to which an atmosphere of chaos was created in the House.
Opposition MLAs also waved posters related to the incident, to which Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani expressed strong objection.
He said that the method of bringing and showing the posters appears to be pre-planned. The Speaker instructed Chief Whip Jogeshwar Garg to calm the situation and appealed to maintain the dignity of the House.
Despite repeated appeals, heated debates and allegations and counter-allegations continued. The opposition accused the government of doing politics in the name of cow protection and not being able to ensure security even in the capital.
