Samajwadi Party (SP) President Akhilesh Yadav on Monday criticized the ruling BJP and said that ‘Vande Mataram’ should not only be sung but should also be performed, but today’s “divisive” people want to break the country through this.
While participating in the discussion on Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh alleged that at present the people in power want to take credit for everything.
The SP MP said, “The people of our ruling party want to take credit for everything…they want to adopt even the great men who are not theirs or the things which are not theirs.”
Akhilesh said, “Vande Mataram is not just for singing, it should also be performed. People in power should assess to what extent we are fulfilling this duty. Today’s ‘divisive’ people want to break the country through that. Such people have betrayed the country in the past and are betraying it even today.
Taking aim at the ruling party, he said that at the time of the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the speech that was to be given by its president who was elected, there was a debate on whether “BJP will go on the path of secular socialism or not.”
Taking aim at the BJP, the SP MP said that Vande Mataram is not a matter of show or politics, but “it seems that Vande Mataram has been made by them (the ruling party).”
Taking a jibe at the ruling party, he said, “Those who did not participate in the freedom movement, how will they know the importance of Vande Mataram?”
Referring to the integration of primary schools in Uttar Pradesh, he said that since we are independent, “primary schools are being closed in Uttar Pradesh.” More than 26 thousand schools were closed.
He claimed that when the PDA (Backward, Dalit and Minority) community tried to educate children, the BJP government sued the children who went to study and the people who went to teach.
