New Delhi, November 16 (IANS). Vice President CP Radhakrishnan on Sunday stressed the importance of accountability, transparency and honesty to maintain India’s moral wealth. He also appreciated the contribution of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).

Speaking as the Chief Guest at the Audit Day Celebrations 2025, the Vice President appreciated the important role of the CAG and described the institution as the ‘custodian of the public treasury’.

He emphasized that CAG accountability, transparency and integrity, while maintaining impartiality and truth in audit, is a pillar of India’s moral wealth.

Radhakrishnan also lauded the CAG of India for notifying “One Nation, One Commodity Expenditure Head” for the Central Government and all State Governments. This is a reform that will significantly increase the transparency and comparability of government expenditure.

The Vice President said that the global reputation of the CAG has grown through its role as the external auditor for the World Health Organization (WHO), International Labor Organization (ILO) and many other international organisations. He highlighted that the CAG is currently chairing the Asian Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI), a testament to India’s journey of emerging from a follower to a global leader.

The Vice President said, “As the country moves towards the vision of ‘Developed India 2047’, the CAG will continue to be a key partner in ensuring fiscal discipline and transparency for effective governance.”

He urged officials to continuously advance their skills and audit capabilities to enhance transparency in public expenditure and ensure that public money is utilized for public welfare.

At a separate media awards ceremony in Delhi, the Vice President honored Suresh Gopi, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Petroleum and Natural Gas. In his address, the Vice President said that cinema and politics are two completely different worlds, but have one thing in common – both are uncertain fields. He praised Suresh Gopi for persisting and succeeding in both.

The Vice President also stressed the important role of media in highlighting the positive developments of the country to inspire optimism among the youth. He emphasized that journalism gives voice to the voiceless and highlighted the important role of media in creating a drug-free society by spreading awareness and shaping responsible public discourse.
