New Delhi, November 10 (IANS). Violence took place in Madhesh province of Nepal on Monday. In fact, CPN-UML parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav was made the CM of Madhesh province. Regarding this, the CM office in Janakpurdham was vandalized.
The highly controversial appointment of a new Chief Minister in Madhesh province has led to violent protests, vandalism and deep divisions among provincial parties and leaders.
Provincial chief Sumitra Subedi Bhandari on Friday morning suddenly swore in UML parliamentary party leader Saroj Kumar Yadav as the new chief minister. The swearing-in ceremony took place at Hotel Panas located in Bardibas Municipality-3 of Mahottari, which is away from the official provincial headquarters. Only after this the ruckus started.
Let us inform that LSP leader Jitendra Sonal was appointed under Article 168 (2), but he failed to get the trust vote on November 8 (Karthik 22). In such a situation, Saroj Kumar Yadav was appointed under Article 168 (3) of the Constitution.
At the same time, as soon as the news of Saroj Kumar Yadav’s appointment came out, workers of Nepali Congress (NC), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), and Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSPA) came out on the streets. The protesters indulged in vandalism, burnt tires and blocked roads.
Angry people also tried to stop the newly appointed Chief Minister from entering Madhesh Bhawan, the provincial headquarters in Janakpur. Eyewitnesses to the violent protest said that MLAs were also directly involved in the vandalism. A provincial MP of the Nepali Congress was seen entering the Chief Minister’s office, throwing furniture and taking down the Nepal national flag in protest.
Some UML MPs expressed dissatisfaction over the sudden appointment, saying there was no internal discussion within the party on Yadav’s nomination. One thing became clear from this that there is internal discord going on in UML.
A video surfaced on social media, in which it can be seen that a government employee is trying to save the official record file from a group of vandals and within no time the mob attacks him too.
