Kolkata, July 9 (IANS). West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari proudly said that for the first time in many years, all the seats in government engineering colleges have been filled in the first phase of West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) counselling.

He said, “Our government is working with full commitment to take the quality of higher education in the state to new heights. We are taking necessary steps to modernize our educational institutions and create a strong educational environment based on innovation and excellence.”
The Chief Minister also said that our aim is to convert ‘brain drain’ into ‘brain gain’. For this, we are trying to provide world-class opportunities within the state itself, so that our talented young generation can make a bright future here and contribute significantly to the development of West Bengal.
The Chief Minister also shared brief details of the first phase of counseling in the state. As per the details, the admission process for engineering, technology and architecture courses has started much earlier than previous years. This year, unprecedented enthusiasm is being seen for engineering admissions. While last year only 27,135 students had registered for the first round of engineering course admission, this year 36,431 students have registered. This is an increase of approximately 34.26 percent compared to last year.
According to the information shared by the Chief Minister, counseling for pharmacy course will start very soon. Admission for the first round in a total of 87 engineering educational institutions will continue till Saturday, July 11. In the first round, almost 100 percent seats have been allotted in government and government-aided colleges and universities.
It added that a large number of seats have also been allotted in private institutions. A total of 3 rounds of counseling for admission will be completed within July. It is expected that the number of students enrolling in engineering courses will increase significantly this year.
