Kolkata, March 1 (IANS). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to give a tough fight to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in her assembly constituency Bhawanipur in the upcoming assembly elections.
Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly and old BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has created a ‘war room’ in Bhawanipur constituency. BJP sources gave this information on Sunday.
This ‘war room’ has been built on the ground floor of a house at 8/1B Chakraberia Road (South) in Ward No. 70 of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) area.
Note that Bhawanipur assembly constituency is made up of eight KMC wards – 63, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 77 and 82.
Since the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP has been consistently getting good votes in six wards of Bhawanipur assembly constituency.
In many cases, the BJP is ahead by a huge margin in Wards 63, 70, 71, 72 and 74, leaving the ruling Trinamool Congress behind.
Based on these figures, opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari wants to defeat Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the upcoming state assembly elections. This is the reason why opposition leaders are participating in different programs of BJP in Bhawanipur assembly constituency at least once a week.
In the 2021 state assembly elections, the Chief Minister left his assembly constituency and contested from Nandigram in East Midnapore district, which is the assembly constituency of Suvendu Adhikari.
However, after losing to Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram, Mamata Banerjee later fulfilled the constitutional requirement of becoming the Chief Minister by winning the Bhawanipur Assembly by-election.
BJP leadership says that the Chief Minister will contest the upcoming assembly elections from Bhawanipur. Therefore, BJP leadership has instructed Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari to make preparations so that Mamata Banerjee can face a tough competition this time.
A source in West Bengal BJP said that the strategy to fight against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be implemented from the party’s war room office in Ward No. 70.
Since BJP has the highest number of votes in this ward, it has been decided to create an office in this ward to fight against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
According to a BJP leader, Trinamool Congress has repeatedly won the Bhawanipur seat on the basis of the margin of votes polled in just one ward.
Since Ward No. 77 of Bhawanipur is minority dominated, Trinamool Congress got huge votes from this ward.
Surprisingly, according to the data, names of about 47,000 voters were removed in Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s assembly constituency, while in Suvendu Adhikari’s area this figure was around 11,000. According to data received from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, the total number of names removed from the final voter list in Kolkata’s Bhawanipur Assembly constituency, where the MLA is the Chief Minister, is 47,111.
In the case of Bhawanipur, the number of voters whose documents are currently pending in the court is 14,154, which means more names are likely to be removed from that area at the end of the court decision process.
BJP sources said that the highest number of names removed from the final voter list is from Ward No. 77. Because of this, the BJP hopes to reduce the Trinamool Congress votes in Bhawanipur and gain an edge in the upcoming state assembly elections.
