Kolkata, March 15 (IANS). The Election Commission has announced the dates of assembly elections in West Bengal. Elections are to be conducted in two phases in the state. During this, Trinamool Congress has expressed confidence of winning more than 250 seats in the state.
Speaking to media persons after the release of the assembly election notification, Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that elections being held in fewer phases than last time will not affect the ruling party’s prospects in West Bengal.
He said that the Election Commission itself is impartial? Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar himself is not impartial. We won’t say anything! We are also ready for single phase elections. Our only demand is: Be fair. After the elections the public will take action against him. Elections will not be conducted by excluding even a single valid voter. It is just their illusion as to which seats BJP contests. This time Trinamool will win from Nandigram also.
He said that West Bengal will vote against the central government’s politics of revenge, politics of depriving Bengal, insult to the Bengali language and insult to the people of Bengal. The people of Bengal will vote against those harassing people in the name of Special Intensive Review (SIR). BJP will have to face an even worse defeat. TMC will win more than 250 seats. Mamata Banerjee will return to power with more than 250 MLAs.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced the voting schedule for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections in two phases – April 23 and April 29 – while the fate of over 42 lakh voters sent for judicial decision after being classified under the “logical anomaly” category still remains uncertain.
