President Draupadi Murmu on Saturday approved the central government’s proposal to convene the winter session of Parliament from December 1 to December 19.

Sharing the development on social media platform X, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the upcoming winter session will be aimed at ensuring constructive deliberations and meaningful outcomes that will strengthen democratic values.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju tweeted, ‘President of India Draupadi Murmu ji has approved the government’s proposal to convene the winter session of Parliament from 1 December 2025 to 19 December 2025 (subject to exigencies of parliamentary business). Looking forward to a constructive and meaningful session that will strengthen our democracy and fulfill the aspirations of the people.

The monsoon session of Parliament, which began on July 21, ended on August 21, a day ahead of schedule, when both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha were adjourned sine die. This session had 21 meetings in 32 days.

The session was marred by continuous uproar over the opposition’s demand for discussion on the special summary revision of the voter list in Bihar. Due to frequent adjournments, the productivity of the Lok Sabha stood at around 31 per cent, while the productivity of the Rajya Sabha stood at around 39 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, 14 bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha during the session, while 12 bills were passed in the Lower House and 15 bills in the Upper House.

“Overall, 15 bills received approval from both houses of Parliament and one bill was withdrawn from the Lok Sabha,” the release said.

The session also had a special discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’, the decisive and successful counter-terrorism operation launched by India in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. This discussion took place in the Lok Sabha on 28-29 July and in the Rajya Sabha on 29-30 July.
