Kohima, March 7 (IANS). Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has announced to organize a special ‘Mahila Public Hearing’ for the grievances of women across the state on the occasion of International Women’s Day. NSCW Chairperson W. Nginyeh Konyak told a press conference here on Saturday that this program will be organized at the district level in all the districts from 9 to 13 March 2026.
This initiative is being run in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NSW), New Delhi, to ensure speedy redressal of grievances and access to justice for women across the country. Konyak said that this week-long campaign will provide a direct, accessible and effective platform to women, where they can voice their problems and get institutional support.
The main objective is to hear and resolve complaints of women against domestic violence, sexual harassment at workplace, maternity benefits, eviction, trafficking, cyber crimes, marital rights, mental health issues, emotional abuse, gender based discrimination and violence, problems related to welfare schemes and other complaints related to women’s safety, dignity and rights.
The specialty of ‘Mahila Jan Sunayi’ is that it will ensure prompt hearing, registration of serious cases, legal advice, assistance in the process and timely follow-up. A special bench comprising NSCW chairperson and members, district administration officer, District Legal Services Authority (DALSA), police officers, legal experts and protection officers will be present. Walk-in complaints will also be heard, so that women from rural and remote areas can get help without delay.
Konyak stressed that this initiative is not just a mere celebration, but a concrete step towards real justice and empowerment. There is a resolve to create a safe, respectful and responsible ecosystem for women through joint efforts of state and national institutions. This program will be organized in the DC Conference Hall of the district headquarters, so that access is easy.
NSCW has appealed to all the women of the state to participate in these hearings without hesitation if they are facing injustice.
