Some time ago, there was a huge uproar across the country regarding the cockroach statement of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Justice Surya Kant. Now the CJI has again given the same statement while hearing a case on Wednesday (June 17, 2026). While rejecting the bail plea of an accused, the CJI said that you people are parasites, it will be good for the society if you stay in jail.
In fact, in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (June 17, 2026), a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant was hearing the bail plea of an accused in a case related to cyber crime. Meanwhile, the CJI made strong remarks and refused to grant bail to the accused. He said that cyber criminals are parasites, who cheat people of crores of rupees and it is difficult to catch them. It is in the interest of society that such criminals remain behind bars.
What did the CJI say during the hearing?
During the hearing of this case, the Chief Justice of the country Justice Surya Kant expressed concern over the cases of cyber crime and also reprimanded the accused. He said, ‘You people are parasites who cheat investors of crores of rupees. We have to be very strict on cyber criminals. You people are not limited to any one state. You betray someone in Tamil Nadu and then go to Jammu from there. It is for the welfare of society that people like you remain behind bars.
There was an uproar over CJI’s cockroach statement
Earlier, CJI Surya Kant had made similar remarks during the hearing of a case, where he had allegedly compared unemployed youth to cockroaches. After this, there was a huge uproar across the country regarding his statement. A new online political party called Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) also emerged on social media citing his statement.
He said that unemployed youth later become media, social media and RTI activists and then start attacking the system itself. However, as the uproar increased, the CJI clarified his comment and said, ‘My comment has been misrepresented. My statement was for those who come into the law profession with fake and bogus degrees.
