'Your mother and grandmother...' Shah and Kangana Ranaut lashed out at Rahul's allegations of vote theft, history of Gandhi family echoed in Parliament

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) responded to allegations of vote rigging made by Congress MP and leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. On Wednesday (December 10, 2025), Home Minister Amit Shah and Mandi MP and actress Kangana Ranaut spoke on the issue of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s citizenship and voting rights.

Referring to the petition filed in a Delhi court, Amit Shah told Parliament that it has been claimed that Sonia Gandhi became a citizen of the country later, but she had already become a voter. However, he clarified that he is not making this claim himself, rather a case has been filed in the court with this claim. Amit Shah said, “Recently a controversy has reached the Delhi Civil Court, in which it has been claimed that Sonia Gandhi had become a voter before becoming a citizen of the country. I have only stated the fact that a case is going on in the court. Now Sonia Gandhi will have to answer in the court.”

Hearing this, Congress leaders created an uproar. Congress MP K.C. Venugopal termed Amit Shah’s allegations as baseless and said, “The case that was filed against Sonia Gandhi in the 1980s was dismissed by the Rouse Avenue Court because there was no merit in that case. Sonia Gandhi did not vote in that election, and I challenge the Home Minister, Sonia Gandhi never voted in that election. Can you prove it? Is the Home Minister giving a false statement?”

Amit Shah replied, “I have not said anything like that. I have only said that a dispute has reached the Delhi court. I have not given any decision on it. The decision will come when Sonia Gandhi responds to the notice in the court, and then I will inform the Parliament. I have only said that a case has been registered in the court, and a notice has been sent to Sonia Gandhi. What is the need for all this ruckus?”

Kangana Ranaut also strongly criticized the opposition in Parliament on Wednesday. Responding to the opposition’s allegations, he said that there was a time when they used to snatch ballot boxes, and today these people are claiming that EVMs can be hacked. Taking a dig at Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, she said, “She says, ‘Let’s forget old things, we will not talk about the past, we will not talk about old people.’ So I want to know, your mother… she got citizenship in 1983, how many years before that she had been voting?” Attacking the Gandhi family, he said, “His family is full of the spirit of asserting one’s rights. You people never respected this country, its law and order or its Constitution.”
