Politics is still hot after Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann allegedly came to the assembly under the influence of alcohol. A high level delegation of Punjab BJP met Governor Gulab Chand Kataria on Sunday. BJP leaders have raised serious questions about Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in front of the Governor. Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar demanded change of the Chief Minister of the state. He said that no one lets a drunk man drive a car, Bhagwant Mann is driving Punjab. It’s as if someone has put a stamp on the stigma. On the issue of disrespect to Baba Sahib and the Constitution by the AAP MLAs on the trust vote in the Assembly, Jakhar said that the real floor test will be with the Governor only, because many AAP MLAs will soon come to the Raj Bhavan against his government.
BJP demanded that the Punjab Chief Minister should be sent to a de-addiction center for treatment. Jakhar alleged that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s conduct during the Assembly session makes him unfit to lead a sensitive border state like Punjab. He said that the party has requested the Governor to talk to the leadership of the ruling party and ask them to choose a new leader, as Bhagwant Mann has lost the moral right to continue on the post of Chief Minister.
Two ministers and Chief Secretary allegedly threatened in cabinet meeting
Speaking to the media, Jakhar said that the party has demanded the Governor to call the Chief Secretary of Punjab to find out whether he is working under any pressure. Apart from two ministers, the Chief Secretary was also allegedly threatened and insulted at the Cabinet meeting held before the Assembly session on May 1. He said that by calling the officers, it should be ensured that they can work as per the law, without any fear and they should be assured that the Constitution and the Central Government will protect them if they work within the rules.
Jakhar said that the Assembly session called on the occasion of Labor Day was just an excuse and in reality the Chief Minister called it to save his chair. He alleged that after the session, MLA Raman Arora, who was jailed in a corruption case, was given police protection, which shows that the government is giving protection to the corrupt and giving free hand to its MLAs to indulge in corruption. He called this a dangerous trend and said that the Chief Minister was taking decisions under the fear of losing his chair, which was contrary to his oath.
Intimidating MLAs by showing fear of FIR
Jakhar also attacked Aam Aadmi Party convener Arvind Kejriwal. He said that Kejriwal himself has come back from jail in the liquor policy case, in such a situation how will he change Bhagwant Bhagwant Mann? He alleged that through Sandeep Pathak, an attempt is being made to scare the MLAs by giving them the fear of FIR so that they do not leave the party. FIR lodged against MP Sandeep Pathak. On the question of Jakhar said that BJP is not afraid of such actions. He alleged that this case has been registered to intimidate people within the ruling party and prevent them from leaving the party.
