Ujjain, June 9 (IANS). Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal was performed on Tuesday, the ninth date of Purushottam month, in Shri Mahakaleshwar temple. Lord Mahakal was decorated grandly by using silver moon, trident and tripund. The doors of Baba Mahakal were opened at four o’clock in the morning. As soon as the devotees got darshan of Baba after the divine adornment and Bhasma Aarti, the entire complex echoed with the slogan of “Jai Shri Mahakal”. The temple complex echoed with bells, conch shells and chanting of mantras.
With the opening of the doors of the temple, amid chanting of mantras, Lord Mahakal was anointed with Panchamrit made from milk, curd, ghee, sugar and fruit juice. Baba Mahakal was decorated in the form of a king by wearing silver moon, trident and tripund. The priest of the temple performed the Maha Aarti. A large number of devotees witnessed the Bhasma Aarti of Baba Mahakal. A large number of devotees were queuing up since late night to get darshan of their adored deity.
Before the break of dawn, according to tradition, the doors of Baba Mahakal are opened with the beat of drums and with the permission of Lord Veerbhadra. Baba Mahakal’s transformation from formless to form has philosophical significance. It represents the divine state where the infinite, formless and omnipresent Shiva appears in a worshipable form for the welfare of the devotees.
