MP News: Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), located in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, has taken an important initiative in the field of technical education. From the new academic session, the institute is going to start B.Tech (Civil Engineering) studies in Hindi medium for the first time. This step has been taken especially keeping in mind the students coming from Hindi medium and rural backgrounds. The biggest feature of this course is that students will not be obliged to study continuously for four years. Under the New Education Policy (NEP), the facility of multiple entry and exit has also been provided.
New beginning of engineering in Hindi medium
Till now, in most of the engineering institutes of the country, technical education was available only in English medium, due to which many students studying in Hindi medium were hesitant in taking admission in engineering. In view of this challenge, SGSITS has decided to start B.Tech Civil Engineering in Hindi language. The institute believes that this will provide great convenience to the students coming from rural areas and government schools in getting technical education. Also, they will be able to understand the subjects better and complete their studies with confidence.
It is not necessary to study continuously for 4 years
This new course has been prepared in accordance with the New Education Policy (NEP). In this, students will get the facility to continue their studies or leave it midway as per their circumstances.
On completion of the first year, the student will be considered eligible for ITI draftsman level work.
After completing the second year, he will be able to do work like site supervision.
On completion of three years of study, the student will get a diploma in civil engineering.
On completion of four years he will be awarded the degree of B.Tech (Civil Engineering).
With this system, students who leave their studies midway due to financial or personal reasons will not suffer any educational loss.
The language gap between laborers and engineers will reduce
According to the officials of the institute, most of the workers in construction work communicate in Hindi or local language only. Many times English medium educated engineers find it difficult to explain technical instructions and safety related information effectively. Providing engineering education in Hindi medium will establish better communication between engineers and workers at the workplace. This is also expected to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of construction works.
Approval received from AICTE, admission will be done on 60 seats
This course has received the approval of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). At present 60 seats have been earmarked for it. 35 seats were allotted in the first phase of counselling, however only two students have taken admission so far. The institute says that the admission process is still going on and more students are expected to join in the coming phases. Study materials, technical books and other educational resources will also be made available to the students in Hindi language, so that there is no problem in studies.
New education policy will get a boost
This course will be completely based on the principles of National Education Policy (NEP). In this, students will get the opportunity to study under the credit based system. If a student drops out of studies for any reason, he will be able to complete his education later by taking re-admission on the basis of the same credit. Education experts believe that this model will not only give more flexibility to the students, but will also prove to be an important step towards promoting technical education in the mother tongue. If this experiment is successful in the coming times, then other technical institutes can also move towards starting engineering courses in Hindi and regional languages.
