New Delhi, July 7 (IANS). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi on Tuesday strongly advocated exploring and harnessing the country’s inherent potential in the sector.
The Rajya Sabha MP appreciated the proactive approach of the Narendra Modi government in recognizing this opportunity and the important steps taken towards establishing the country as a global hub of traditional medicine.
Trivedi said that the headquarters of the Global Center for Traditional Medicine of the World Health Organization (WHO) has been established in Jamnagar, Gujarat. India will now act as a center for authenticating, documenting and sharing the knowledge of traditional medicine with the world.
He also criticized previous governments for being ‘ignorant’ of the country’s inherent potential and not doing enough to harness it.
Giving the example of the 2016 Nobel Prize, Sudhanshu Trivedi said that the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology was given to Japanese scientist Yoshinori Osumi. He received this honor for his research on autophagy – a process by which cells purify themselves. If one fasts for 12 to 14 hours, the body cells expel the waste elements, and the process of formation of new cells improves.
The BJP MP further said that we (India) have had a tradition of fasting for centuries. If we had scientifically certified our traditional knowledge and presented it to the world, India would probably have got the credit for such a discovery.
Speaking to the press, BJP spokesperson Trivedi lauded the country’s growth journey in various sectors ranging from electronics to iPhone manufacturing, smartphones and pharmaceuticals and pointed out how the country is emerging from an insignificant position at the global level to a significant economic power.
He said that in today’s new global economic order, only three nations – the United States, China and India – are emerging as the three major powers and now is the time for India to make significant progress in sectors such as electronics, smartphones and pharmaceuticals.
Trivedi also said that apart from China, India is the only country today that is producing high-end iPhones on a large scale.
He said that today India supplies about 40 percent of the generic medicines used in America. Global trust in India’s quality and reliability has continuously increased.
