Indore, June 11 (IANS). In Madhya Pradesh, Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan discussed in detail the priorities of the government to increase the participation of women, youth and small farmers in the agriculture sector. He said that the main objective of the Government of India is to make agriculture more inclusive, modern and profitable, so that farming becomes a profitable and technology-based sector rather than just a traditional activity.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the role of women in agriculture is already very important, but there is a need to increase it further. He said that new policies and technical assistance are being worked on to strengthen women’s participation in villages and farms. The government wants women not to be limited to just a supporting role, but also to become active participants in agricultural decisions and the production process.
He also said that increasing the income of small farmers is the priority of the government. For this, the use of new technology, digital agriculture, and scientific methods is being promoted. He says that with modern technologies such as precision farming, drone technology and data-based agricultural management, production can be increased and costs can be reduced.
The minister also stressed on attracting youth towards agriculture sector. He said that if today’s youth look at agriculture from the innovation and startup perspective, then this sector can provide huge opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship. The government is also providing assistance in this direction through various schemes and training programs.
Describing climate change as a major challenge for agriculture, he said that due to changing weather, irregular rainfall and environmental pressure, there is a need to change the methods of farming. For this, it is necessary to adopt climate-sensitive agricultural techniques and sustainable farming. Besides, work is also being done towards strengthening the digital agriculture system.
Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that topics like agriculture, food security and farmers’ rights will also be discussed in detail during the BRICS meeting. He said that important issues like interests of small farmers, farmers’ rights on seeds and global food security will be included in the upcoming manifesto. He described it as being in line with the vision of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also informed that during the meeting, foreign delegates will be taken on tour to historical places like Mandu and Mandavgarh to acquaint them with the cultural heritage of India. This will not only introduce the rich culture of India but will also strengthen international relations.
