Chennai Super Kings: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has been fined Rs 24 lakh. This fine has been imposed on Ruturaj due to slow over rate in the match played by CSK against Gujarat Titans (GT). CSK lost against GT by 89 runs.
This is the second time in IPL 2026 that the CSK team has failed to bowl its 20 overs on time. For this reason, along with captain Ruturaj, a fine of Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee has been imposed on the other CSK players included in the playing eleven, which also includes the Impact player. CSK and captain Ruturaj have been found guilty of Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct.
Batting first at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat Titans scored 229 runs on the scoreboard after losing 4 wickets in 20 overs. Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill gave a great start to the team by batting brilliantly and added 125 runs in 12.2 overs for the first wicket.
Sudarshan played a strong inning of 84 runs facing 53 balls. Sudarshan hit 7 fours and 4 sixes in this innings. Whereas, Shubhman Gill contributed 64 runs in 37 balls with the help of 7 fours and 3 sixes. Jos Buttler, playing in a explosive style, scored 57 runs in just 27 balls with the help of 5 fours and 4 sixes.
However, while chasing the target of 230 runs, the entire CSK team collapsed after scoring just 140 runs. Sanju Samson returned to the pavilion without opening the account, while Rituraj Gaikwad could score only 16 runs. Whereas, Matthew Short contributed 24 runs in 14 balls. Urvil Patel was out on zero, while Karthik Sharma could score only 19 runs.
Dewald Brevis’s bat also remained silent and he returned to the pavilion after scoring only 8 runs. Shivam Dubey batted brilliantly in the last overs and scored 47 runs in 17 balls, but he could not get support from the rest of the batsmen. With this defeat, CSK’s journey in IPL 2026 ended.
