
FIFA World Cup: The match played between Japan and Netherlands in the Group F match of FIFA World Cup 2026 ended in a 2-2 draw. The Japanese team was successful in avoiding defeat due to a goal scored by Daichi Kamada in the 88th minute of the match.
In the beginning of the match, the Netherlands team seemed to dominate Japan’s defense. Netherlands made one attack after another, but Japan’s goalkeeper Jeon Suzuki made several brilliant saves. However, the Netherlands completely failed to penetrate Japan’s defense in the first half and could not score any goals.
Van Dyck gave the lead
With the beginning of the second half, Netherlands intensified its aggressive game even more. The team got its benefit in the next five minutes itself. In the 50th minute of the match, Netherlands captain Virgil van Dyck gave the team a 1-0 lead with an excellent header on Ryan Gravenberch’s free kick. However, Japan did not allow the Netherlands’ lead to continue for long. In the 57th minute of the match, Takefusa Kubo from Japan made a brilliant move and passed the ball to Keito Nakamura. Nakamura made the score 1-1 by sending the ball into the goal post without making any mistake.
Netherlands went ahead again with Somerville’s goal
However, the attack from the Netherlands continued and in the 64th minute the team again came into the lead. Ryan Gravenbarch passed the ball to Crescencio Somerville for his second assist of the match. Somerville made a brilliant curling shot that beat the Japanese goalkeeper and gave the Netherlands a 2-1 lead in the match.
Kamada’s late goal gave Japan a point
Netherlands’ victory now seemed certain and the match had reached its final stage. However, Japan got a corner in the 88th minute. Koki Ogawa’s shot reached Daichi Kamada and he sent the ball into the goal post. With this goal, Japan leveled the score at 2-2. After this, no more goals could be scored in the match and both the teams had to be satisfied with one point each.
