Berlin, June 1 (IANS). Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Champions League 2026 victory should become a model for other top clubs in Europe, according to Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, a member of the Bavarians’ supervisory board. According to Rummenigge, PSG’s success shows that great achievements can be achieved in European football with long-term planning, proper team building and a clear club strategy. The 70-year-old Rummenigge praised the French team’s achievement and described the final match against Arsenal as a ‘completely deserved victory’. Paris won this match 4-3 in the penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
“Paris became successful when they started working as a ‘true team’ instead of just collecting expensive star players,” Rummenigge said in an interview with German media on Sunday. Rummenigge said Paris could become a role model for Bayern. He further said, “As we have seen, it is not necessary to buy the most expensive players to be successful, but only wisely selected players are useful.” The former Germany international said, “The story of Paris teaches us that we should not copy certain clubs of the Premier League or the Spanish League.”
According to Rummenigge, PSG played the most attractive football in the Champions League under coach Luis Enrique. After watching the Champions League final in Budapest, he said that Paris had proved by repeating their victory last season that a ‘balanced team’ is the key to success. He further said that PSG’s achievements are a big reason why other major clubs should also learn from their tactics. Along with this, it was also suggested that it would be beneficial for Bayern to move forward with coach Vincent Kompany.
