Rohit Sharma Removal from Captaincy: There has been a lot of changes in the Indian cricket team in the recent past. Shubman Gill was seen as the new captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from Test cricket. Now, the responsibility of captaincy of ODI cricket has also been put on Gill’s shoulders. However, many cricket experts and fans are not happy when Rohit Sharma is removed from the captaincy, and one of them is of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif. Kaif recently questioned the selectors in a statement and said what Rohit Sharma did so wrong, due to which he was removed from the captaincy. Kaif called the decision of the Indian Selection Committee in a hurry, especially when it came to hand over the captaincy to Gill.
Removing hurry to Rohit Sharma from captaincy
Kaif, expressing his opinion on his YouTube channel, said, “I already expected Rohit to be removed from the captaincy, but I expected this change after the 2027 World Cup. Rohit Sharma is a world -class cricketer. He has taken care of his fitness and he could play till 2027.” He further said that now Gill is being pressurized. “Gill was given the captaincy in Test cricket, he bats on number-4. He was also made a vice-captain in the Asia Cup. When Suryakumar Yadav retired, Gill will come in the lead role, but now he was made the captain of ODI cricket. I think all this has been done in a hurry. No player asks for themselves, and not everyone knows that Gill has made the captain of the future.”
What did Rohit Sharma do wrong?
Kaif also said that it is not appropriate to pressurize Gill, as he was not ready for this role. “Ajit Agarkar and other selectors are putting more pressure on them. It will not be beneficial for them either.” Kaif also spoke about Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. He said, “What did Rohit Sharma do so wrong, which was removed from the captaincy? It is very unfortunate that Rohit did not get a long captaincy tenure, not even four years. He is a great batsman and leader. His captaincy record could have been even better. When you snatch the captaincy from a player, I think that the player’s confidence is also broken.”
Mohammad Kaif, while completing his talk, also said that the role of captaincy in cricket is important and it can also affect a player’s ability and confidence. Overall, Mohammad Kaif believes that this change has shown haste and results cannot be good for both Gill and Indian cricket.
