Vinesh Phogat News: Indian female wrestler Vinesh Phogat has got a big relief from the Supreme Court. The court has allowed him to participate in the selection trials for the 2026 Asian Games. These trials will be held on 30th and 31st May. After this decision, Vinesh will now be able to appear in trials.

Hearing held in Supreme Court

This case is related to the petition which was filed by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) against the decision of Delhi High Court. The bench of Justice PS Narasimha and Justice Alok Aradhe heard this in the Supreme Court. For now, the Supreme Court has maintained the order of the Delhi High Court and allowed Vinesh Phogat to participate in the trials. Besides, the court has also sought answers from the parties related to WFI. Now the next hearing of this case will be held next week.

Court mentioned Vinesh’s achievements

During the hearing, the Supreme Court said that Vinesh Phogat’s case is not like that of ordinary players. The court acknowledged that he has brought glory to the country many times and has given a new identity to Indian wrestling. The court said that if this case had been about any other player, the situation could have been different. The judges also said that Vinesh is a brilliant wrestler and has made the country proud. However, the court also made it clear that repeated judicial interference in sports related matters cannot be considered right, because it affects the entire sports program and system.

Questions were also raised on the decision of the High Court

The Supreme Court also raised questions on the manner of the Delhi High Court’s decision. The court said that hasty intervention in matters related to sports administration could affect the entire schedule of trials and competitions. Justice Narasimha said during the hearing that the country comes first and it is important to keep in mind the functioning of sports institutions also.

Motherhood cannot be made a hindrance

In fact, last week the Delhi High Court had said in its decision that motherhood of a female player cannot be considered a reason for hindrance or disqualification in her career. On this basis, the High Court had directed the Indian Wrestling Federation to allow Vinesh Phogat to participate in the Asian Games trials. Now after the latest order of the Supreme Court, the way for trials has been cleared for Vinesh Phogat. However, the final decision on the matter is still pending and the hearing in the court will continue.
