Bengaluru, June 23 (IANS). Infosys Chairman Nandan Nilekani on Tuesday said artificial intelligence (AI) will not replace IT software companies but will help in the expansion of companies that are quick adopters of new technology.
In his address at the company’s 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Nilekani said there is a real gap in the use of AI among large enterprise customers, and it is our aim to bridge this gap. AI will not replace companies like ours. This will strengthen companies that move with purpose and adapt quickly.
He said Infosys is keen to tap the huge opportunity of AI-based services worth $400 billion by 2030.
He acknowledged that some people also question whether companies like Infosys will still remain relevant when much of the coding becomes automated.
Nilekani said software development is not limited to just writing code, but requires deep enterprise context, integration with existing technology investments, cybersecurity measures, testing, governance and architecture expertise.
He said that more than three years after the launch of Generative Artificial Intelligence, Infosys is more relevant than ever and is well positioned for the coming decade. While we are adopting the best coding tools and improving our productivity, there is still a lot more to do in the software development lifecycle.
He said the defining opportunity lies in integrating intelligent AI systems with mission-critical enterprise platforms. The greatest benefits will come from combining the world of models and agents with the traditional transaction systems that remain the foundation of enterprise operations. This will be the source of the next wave of opportunities.
Nilekani also said that customers trust Infosys to use its deep experience to help them understand the complexities of enterprise AI. Infosys is fully prepared to help its customers move forward. He further said that Infosys is already supporting 90 per cent of its top 200 customers in their AI journey.
