Amravati, April 12 (IANS). On the occasion of ‘World Quantum Day’ on April 14, Andhra Pradesh is set to become the epicenter of the country’s quantum technology revolution.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will launch two state-of-the-art quantum computer test beds at SRM University, Amaravati and virtually at Medha Towers in Gannavaram. These state-of-the-art quantum reference facilities will make Andhra Pradesh the first state in the country to have a dedicated quantum testing and certification ecosystem, an official statement issued on Sunday said.
These facilities, developed with indigenous technology, will enable testing and certification of quantum computing hardware, ushering in a new era of advanced technological capabilities in Amaravati. This initiative is expected to significantly boost research, innovation and industry collaboration in the rapidly growing quantum field.
The 1Q test bed installed by QBTech at Medha Towers and the 1S test bed developed using superconducting technology at SRM University Amravati will operate at extremely low temperatures of around -273 degrees Celsius. These mini quantum systems are designed to perform intensive testing of quantum components and devices.
The open-access facility at SRM University will be especially beneficial for researchers, students, startups and companies who are working on quantum technologies. This will provide them a platform for experimentation and validation.
Both facilities are built entirely using indigenously developed components, further strengthening India’s efforts towards self-reliance in deep-tech innovation. Leading institutions like Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Indian Institute of Science and Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) have provided technical support for this initiative.
The inaugural ceremony will see participation from representatives of the National Quantum Mission, IIT professors, leading scientists, quantum startup founders, research scholars and experts in the field. Additionally, arrangements have been made for more than 150,000 students from universities and colleges across the state to attend the event virtually.
