New Delhi, April 22 (IANS). Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, the Central Government said on Wednesday that 41 biogas cylinder filling and storage plants have been approved, out of which licenses have also been issued to 14 plants.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said that the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) had received a total of 467 applications for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Compressed Biogas (CBG) stations, which were disposed of on priority basis between March 25 and April 21.

According to the Petroleum Ministry, out of these 467 cases, 157 got final license, while in 38 cases prior approval was given for construction of new CNG/CBG stations.

The Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) has taken a number of safety and support measures to maintain the availability of fuel and gas during the current crisis.

Temporary storage of Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) has been relaxed, allowing storage of up to 2,500 liters and one-time relaxation of up to 5,000 liters to ensure continued supply to the end consumer under the Public Distribution System (PDS).

The ministry said that to ensure domestic availability, the export of ammonium nitrate was completely banned on March 18. Also, guidelines were issued to allow filling of LNG in cryogenic cylinders, thereby making fuel supply more flexible.

PESO issued instructions on March 20 that applications related to CNG stations and decompression units be disposed of within 10 days, so that the infrastructure can be developed rapidly.

To quickly overcome the problem of supply, permission was also given to unload LPG at Porbandar Jetty on 14 March.

To increase transparency, the list of container manufacturers and their capacities approved for PDS kerosene and diesel supply was released on the PESO website on 1 April 2026.

Additionally, on April 1, a temporary relaxation of 6 months was given in the approval process for CNG/CBG compressors, so that new stations can be started quickly.

Also, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is also taking several steps to continue industrial activities, stabilize the supply chain and support the manufacturing sector amid the situation in West Asia.

The objective of these measures is to ensure continuous availability of fuel and essential resources and to reduce the problems faced by the industries.
